Kinja'd!!!15 Kinja'd!!! 60

So over the weekend I was fortunate enough to be at Goodwood with Jalopnik. So whilst Mr Petrány is bringing you actual stories and things, Im just going to do a photodump of my personal highlights and favourites. So without further ado, here we go (the first ones you might have already seen, but read on, theres 150 here and most are brand new):

Kinja'd!!!

These were used during the Moving Motor Show on thursday, and members of the public were allowed to drive them. Sadly, I didnt realise this until it was fully booked.

Kinja'd!!!

M8F - Love me some Can Am, and Mclaren built their business model around being successful in Can Am. The year they stopped winning (Porsche 917 arrived, see lower down) they pulled out because they couldnt afford to do it without the prize money.

Kinja'd!!!

Mclarens evolution.

Kinja'd!!!

And the aforementioned Porsche that evicted Mclaren from Can Am. oh and a Martini liveried 917. Nice.

Kinja'd!!!

This was the quietest the statue was over the weekend. Thursday morning at about 8.15am. Dont say I dont work hard to bring you lovely lot pictures :)

Kinja'd!!!

Not a clue what this is, but I like it.

Kinja'd!!!

2000gt. Lovely.

Kinja'd!!!

205 T16. Lovely.

Kinja'd!!!

FIA Appendix K Cobra, built in 2014 but to period regulations, so can be run in any FIA K races.

Kinja'd!!!

Mad Max on display. Yes please.

Kinja'd!!!

P1 in this lovely livery.

Kinja'd!!!

DBR1 and DBR2 in british racing green. lovely.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Jim Clarks Lotus Indy 500 car.

Kinja'd!!!

Hooray, Rothmans Porsches. Not sure how they got around the cigarette advertising regulations, but Rothmans found a way, and I for one am grateful.

Kinja'd!!!

SO. MANY. FERRARIS!

Kinja'd!!!

Ferrari but not in red. Not sure how I feel about this...

Kinja'd!!!

787s. Many 787s :)

Kinja'd!!!

The TWR Rover Vitesse, with some TWR tweaks to make it fall in the grey areas of the rules. Because TWR...

Kinja'd!!!

But still with wooden dash, because what are we? animals?

Kinja'd!!!

Hondas first foray into F1 with the RA272 ‘screamer’. I finished a model of this car a few weeks ago, so was really good to see it in real life.

Kinja'd!!!

Chrome polished driveshafts are just pure engineering porn.

Kinja'd!!!

This era of F1 drivers take bravery to a whole new level. Their ankles form the entire crumple zone...

Kinja'd!!!

Alpine were there celebrating 60 years of making quirky french cars, with their Le Mans winning A442.

Kinja'd!!!

Fangios actual Maserati 250f.

Kinja'd!!!

The Darracq 200bhp, which beat a GT40 in the timed runs. Pretty sure the driver defines Maximum Attack.

Kinja'd!!!

Babs, a landspeed record (full disclosure, the only reason I put this picture in is its a car called Babs, and thats just wonderful)

Kinja'd!!!

The Alfa TZ2. This has to be one of the prettiest cars of the whole weekend.

Kinja'd!!!

And the Beast of Turin. Not much more I can say about this that hasn’t been said, but this was definitely a huge crowd pleaser.

Kinja'd!!!

The Gobstopper (2) in its 800ish BHP bewinged glory.

Kinja'd!!!

Mantheys 2011 Nurburgring 24h winning car, driven by the mans whose name is over the door, Olaf.

Kinja'd!!!

Classic F1 cars were well represented at the FOS too.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Their simplicity makes them some of the prettiest F1 cars I can think of.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Prost and Sennas Mclarens were brought out to play, Mclaren embracing its Honda heritage.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Such a clean simple dash.

Kinja'd!!!

Iconic names, iconic cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Period correct GoPros. oh, wait...

Kinja'd!!!

Yep, iconic names.

Kinja'd!!!

Kimis F12 was sporting some battle scars.

Kinja'd!!!

Sir Stirling Moss was running up the hill in his Millia millia winning 722 Mercedes SLR. Joined by some huge names, Sir Jackie Stewart and Jochen Mass to name a few.

Kinja'd!!!

956 waving as it joined the que.

Kinja'd!!!

Emaneule Pirro was loving his 908k, although i did overhear him asking Andre Lotterer if he fancied swapping.

Kinja'd!!!

Mad Mikes RX7 is mad. He got a telling off for doing a donut in the assembly area to park the car, but I doubt he cares, a true crowd pleaser.

Kinja'd!!!

All forms of motorsport are represented, even Dakar trucks.

Kinja'd!!!

787s (notice the missing 767b, I missed the moment of impact just because I was thinking no dont crash it, please dont crash it but the rest of the shots worked well)

Kinja'd!!!

Sennas Toleman, part of the fearless but flat broke category.

Kinja'd!!!

You can get very close to the cars at Goodwood.

Kinja'd!!!

Not just road cars at the FOS, oh no, Rally cars have their own dedicated stage at the top of the hill.

Kinja'd!!!

Proper rally Minis. Being driven as mother nature (well, Mini) intended

Kinja'd!!!

And Imprezas in their proper livery. There was no hanging about with these guys on the stage too, they were really going for it.

Kinja'd!!!

Delta Integrale. :D

Kinja'd!!!

And a SWB Quattro, Yes please.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I may be biased (Focus owner) but the Martini livery even makes the Focus look good.

Kinja'd!!!

Kris Meeke was at the FOS, and was not hanging about on the stage. He eventually beat the stage record set by Sebastian Loeb but that didnt stop him from pounding round the stage for 2 days at full speed.

Kinja'd!!!

Subaru in its natural habitat.

Kinja'd!!!

This Ferrari 308 came with its own Skis, of course. Sounded glorious in the woods too.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Escorts were well represented, as they are in pretty much every UK rally event.

Kinja'd!!!

RWD Tablot was almost always on the lockstops with a handful of oversteer.

Kinja'd!!!

This R5 DS3 was pressing on, hence fairly hot brakes.

Kinja'd!!!

Lancia 037b. There was rumored to be one in Martini colours around, but I never saw it :(

Kinja'd!!!

This little FWD Lancia Fulvia (I think) was out on the stage more than pretty much any other car.

Kinja'd!!!

Rally RS200 :D

Kinja'd!!!

One of my favourite shots of the whole weekend, this Quattro emerging through the woods.

Kinja'd!!!

Nissan brought out a selection of classic rally cars to play too.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Mark 2 Escort making lots of dust. I still have to clean out my camera from a morning on the stage, because every car was kicking up SO MUCH DUST!

Kinja'd!!!

Big Healy, driven in period by Sir Stirling Moss’ sister.

Kinja'd!!!

Kris Meeke on maximum attack as always. The car control of the WRC boys never ceases to amaze me

Kinja'd!!!

Castrol liveried Toyota rally car. Oh I hope they bring this back when they rejoin the WRC.

Kinja'd!!!

More Quattro goodness.

Kinja'd!!!

And more Castrol goodness for that matter.

Kinja'd!!!

Martini Porsche Rally car. Tell me whats bad about that sentence.

Kinja'd!!!

The mighty Focus.

Kinja'd!!!

This little Seat touring car was one of the fastest things up the hill. Shows how far technology has come on.

Kinja'd!!!

Its not a demo run for some guys, and more than one got bitten by Molecombe.

Kinja'd!!!

Mike Conway and the tiny TS040. Seriously, LMP1s are much smaller in person, its really odd.

Kinja'd!!!

Gulf Liveried 917k and 908k. And I had to sit down for a few minute after these two.

Kinja'd!!!

The noise of this V12 Broadspeed Jag was Epic.

Kinja'd!!!

The F1 GTR Longtail has some stunning little details to it.

Kinja'd!!!

And a line up of Mazda Rotaries. The noise when this lot started was mad.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

NSFW Upskirt Shot.

Kinja'd!!!

During one of the handful of redflags, the marshalls eased up on where photographers were allowed, hence standing in the middle of the tyre warming area.

Kinja'd!!!

Beast.

Kinja'd!!!

First time I have seen a Singer 911, and these are some seriously perfect Porsches.

Kinja'd!!!

Chris Harris took this up the hill during the supercar shootout, though it was shared by various people over the weekend.

Kinja'd!!!

I want 1...

Kinja'd!!!

La FCKKUKKFUCKKKCCUKKKFF or whatever this is called. Names arent important when your this fast, this loud, and this awesome.

Kinja'd!!!

P1 GTR completing the set of Mclarens racing history, and future.

Kinja'd!!!

What an absolute weapon.

Kinja'd!!!

Mr Glickenhaus was there, with his SCG003 and his P4/5 (in the concours area). I love that this is the exact car from the N24.

Kinja'd!!!

Complete with numberplates.

Kinja'd!!!

Everything about Konigsegg is mad, even the door hinges.

Kinja'd!!!

And the Pagani Huayra (sp?) I still think of them as a new supercar company even though they have been round for at least 15 years now.

Kinja'd!!!

No No NO NO NO NO!

Kinja'd!!!

Shit.

Kinja'd!!!

Not satisfied with having the best show on the ground, Lord March called his RAF buddies who brought the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Red Arrows out to play.

Kinja'd!!!

Imagine what it must be like with 35 of these on the Mountain at Bathurst. This thing is EVIL!

Kinja'd!!!

Low and wide, this Ferrari was absolutely flat out during the top 45 runs on Sunday.

Kinja'd!!!

The Mclaren being driven as Bruce would have wanted.

Kinja'd!!!

The Gosbstopper during its Qualy Runs, with enough aero to clean the track of all dust

Kinja'd!!!

The Miijet Mini joining in with the hatchbacks with insane aero category.

Kinja'd!!!

Al Buncombe doesnt really have any other speed that flat out.

Kinja'd!!!

S4 is just as bonkers as it looks.

Kinja'd!!!

More Madbull fun.

Kinja'd!!!

and the Hoonicorn. The donuts this thing does are ridiculous, pretty much in its own length.

Kinja'd!!!

And every detail has been considered in it.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Tyres with some tread. Please note, this was first thing sunday morning, before any of that days runs.

Kinja'd!!!

S1 Quattro, sadly not getting muddy but still awesome

Kinja'd!!!

The Kings Superbird. Almost all the other drivers were getting photos with him.

Kinja'd!!!

Mad Mike doing what Mad Mike does.

Kinja'd!!!

Lord March doesn’t like his grass being messed up. I presume this driver was uninvited to the champagne ball after this cut.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The Nascar boys sure can make some smoke.

Kinja'd!!!

The gangs back together.

Kinja'd!!!

Big Beasty.

Kinja'd!!!

This thing is comically large. You cant come close to seeing over it (and I’m 6’2)

Kinja'd!!!

Such a pretty car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Stadium Supertruck was enjoying waving through the corners.

Kinja'd!!!

Please note, this came through about 4 cars after the Stadium truck. Only at Goodwood.

Kinja'd!!!

BJ Baldwins massive Baja truck.

Kinja'd!!!

Fords new Homologation Special GT350. Built purely so they can go and play in CTSCC.

Kinja'd!!!

The SLR has an interesting pedal position, with legs wide apart to house the transmission.

Kinja'd!!!

100 internet points to anyone who can name every rider here. I can manage 3.

Kinja'd!!!

and only 1 of these guys.

Kinja'd!!!

Lord March was rather pleased to have got this group of riders together.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Papaya Orange is perfection.

Kinja'd!!!

Derek Bell ran this up the hill sunday morning. I do love a yellow Ferrari.

Kinja'd!!!

BMWs GT2 M3 from Le Mans.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Just an R90k idly sitting around waiting to be loaded.

Kinja'd!!!

Sir John Surtees (I know he’s not a Knight, but he damn well should be, so I’m just calling him it now). Such a gentleman, saw me taking the photo so turned and smiled.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The Audi Boys admiring their cars.

Kinja'd!!!

This colour scheme is one of so many wonderful and iconic liveries on display.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Rossi had an awesome sunday, going up the hill on his bike, then 787b, then the S4, and finally this. Not a bad weekend SPOILER ALERT: (he won the Moto GP on saturday too)

Kinja'd!!!

Darracq on maximum attack as always.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Who doesn’t love the 405 T16. Excuse me whilst I go watch Climb Dance.

To those of you who made it this far, thank you :) and thanks to Oppo. Its because of this community that I got the opportunity to join Jalopnik for this event, and with you guys making me want to take better pictures and just capture more of an event, has lead me to this. So yeah, thanks all you guys. Heres to many more weekends photographing cars.

Nope. This thing is a Lotus Esprit. It’s an early version (that was only offered with inline-4) but it was upgraded with a V8. There was an interesting story behind this but I cannot remember how it went.

But your pictures are really good.

Wonderful!

This is a Mercedes C111, built as a technology testbed in the late 60’s-early 70’s, as I recall. I think they put an experimental Wankel engine in it at one point.

Kinja'd!!!

Also: “Darracq on maximum attack as always. “ This gives me a great idea for a Blipshift shirt: Maximum Darracq.

They aren’t allowed in the F1 cars to go for times any more. too dangerous, and to be honest the only thing that separates fans from these things is a line of haybales and logs. If it does go wrong, heaven forbid, it will be a very very bad thing

The easiest way to remove the BL ‘wood’ and the other plastic on the dash- if you were building a SD1 Rally car in the 80’s- was to take the dash out and set it on fire.

A question for you. I was lucky enough to attend the FOS twice in the mid ‘00s. I’ve been to Indy, F1, Le Mans and some other big name events. I contend that the FOS, and probably the Revival, have to be some of the best automotive events in the world. Just the access to the cars and the drivers is amazing. Add in the Red Arrows and it is hard to beat. How do you rank it?

One of my favorite memories was walking up and having a conversation for line 20 minutes with Dan Gurney about motorcycles. You don’t get to do that every day.

Kinja'd!!! RWS Motorsport > f86sabre
06/30/2015 at 17:09

Kinja'd!!!1

Likewise, Ive been to some fairly big events like the N24, Le Mans, F1 and an array of other events. I think as an event for non-car people the FOS is unbeatable. The sheer variety mean anyone could be entertained for a day, and for the anoraks like myself, its amazing. I can count at least 5 cars there that i’ve always wanted to see, and never have (M8F, 917-30 Can Am, 037, 908 Gulf, etc). I would certainly recommend anyone with any petrol in their veins should visit it at least once. I don’t see myself going every year, because where as at a race every year is completely different, most of the cars return most years (as I understand, but I may be wrong) but I would go again in the future without question.

The only difference is that you don’t get the huge build up of excitement before the start, because its always happening. By that I mean, at Le Mans, and the ‘ring, before the race starts, you can feel the tension building for about 60-90 mins in the build up. You miss that at the FOS, but thats just because of the nature of the event. Not taking anything away from the event and the fact that theres always something going on, but its different to a race.

They made a few gullwing prototypes and testbeds between the old 300 and the new SLS. I think this one was produced in some numbers by another company, other than Merc. You named so so many cars I could never name, I was surprised you missed this one!

Oo thats cool. Looks so different from anything Merc have ever really produced, but very awesome for it.

I did cheat, as the other cars were mostly going up the hill so their name was said over the weekend. Well, that and I had my anorak zipped up nice a tight over the whole weekend ha.

Yeah it’s a shame they didn’t go through with it though they constantly teased the world. I believe of that prototype, they made diesel and turbocharged versions as well.

Here are some versions of that car. Here ’s the family, the silver car being another concept they never went through with.
